About us
Here at Ice Breakers we focus on raising and breeding Chesapeakes with exceptional temperaments, proper confirmation with in the breed standard, trainability, and drive. We continue to selectively breed Chesapeakes that show great potential and have honorable blood lines. In our eyes, breeding is all about preserving the great Chesapeake Bay Retriever breed, while also trying to continuously improve it. All our Chesapeakes have appropriate health clearances done, including hip and elbow certifications, eye certifications, and genetic testing.
Ice Breaker Chesapeakes is owned and operated by Dave and Jordan Kranz in Northwest Pennsylvania. We are located about 25 minutes South East of Erie, Pennsylvania and in close proximity to the New York and Ohio State borders. We are also very close to Lake Erie, and spend a lot of time there, as well as Presque Isle and Pymatuning State Park. We live on a 16 acre homestead with our five children, farm animals, and of course our Chessies.
Dave has had Chesapeake Bay Retrievers almost his entire life. Him and his father got their first Chessies in the early-mid 90s when Dave was around 8 years old, and the family hasn't been with out a Chessie since. His first Chesapeake, Mossy, was attached to his hip. She slept at the foot of his bed and was his best hunting partner. Jordan married into the breed, first being introduced to CBRs in 2005. Being a lover of all animals, and a veterinary technician, she easily fell in love with the Chesapeake Bay Retriever.
In the future we hope to spend some extra time getting titles on all our Chesapeakes to help showcase all the potential and greatness we know they possess. We will also be working toward obtaining special AKC "Breeder of Merit" recognition through AKC's Breeders of Merit program.
